Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.
Oh my God. This book was everything I could have wanted and more. I love Kasie West's contemporary novels and this was no exception. I loved it so damn much I can't even explain. The story line was fascinating, the main character (Addie) was one of the best female characters I've read, the romance was absolutely on point. I really don't think I can find one single fault in this book.
I originally started reading this four months ago. Back then I wasn't really in the mood for a dystopian so I kind of lost interest in it. But then the other night I decided to pick it up again and I am so damn glad I did!!
The whole concept of the story completely fascinates me. It kind of reminds me of Divergent in the way that they live in this "City" blocked off from the rest of the world. The main character Addie's power is actually divergent so maybe I'm not too far off. But the powers everyone has are just so cool. You have Searchers who can see their future based on certain decisions, there's human lie detectors, people who can control emotions, telekinesis... it's just amazing. And the way they were all written into the story was brilliant.
Then there are the characters. Each character just feels so real. I instantly connected with Addie and I feel like she is just such a normal character. She doesn't act above her age, and she doesn't act below it either. She's just a normal teenager. Trevor is amazing and I just love him. All of the other characters are great in their own ways, and I feel like they were all written into the story really well and they all have great dimension to them without being overloaded with information.
I can't put into words how much I loved this. Everything about it was exactly what I wanted in a... whatever genre this book is (dystopian? fantasy? paranormal?) I don't know but it's written in such a way that makes it so easy to believe. It's got an amazing contemporary feel to it (which I love) yet it's mysterious and suspenseful at the same time. The suspense throughout the book was really well paced and it was such a page turner. I just had to know what was going to happen. I will admit, it was quite predictable but surprisingly I didn't mind. I liked guessing what would happen and I didn't find it boring at all. I also really enjoyed the alternating chapters which showed the two different paths. It kept the story interesting and I loved seeing how the two intertwined.
The ending was great and made me really excited for the second book (which I will start reading as soon as I've finished writing this review!). I cannot wait to see what will happen but at the same time I don't want the duology to be over.
I could go on and on about this book, and I'm probably forgetting vital information but I really want to get started on the second one right now! So I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a really quick, interesting read! The romance is great, the characters are great and most importantly the story is bloody fantastic!
Would I recommend? 100% yes!
