I had heard so much hype about Anna and the French Kiss, and I was a little bit apprehensive about reading it for that very reason. However, after I had finished Say What You Will, I wanted a light, romantic read, and boy am I glad I chose Anna. Apart from bathroom breaks, I literally read this book in one sitting.
Anna and the French Kiss is about a girl named… wait for it… Anna (no way!). Her Father who is an author of some pretty famous books, decides to send Anna away to a boarding school in “Paree”. Anna obviously doesn’t want to leave her friends back in America, especially in her senior year. However she has no choice so off she goes to Paris where she meets Etienne St. Claire *dayum*.
I loved how Stephanie has written this book, the imagery used created such an amazing picture in my head that it could have been mistaken for a movie, and I love when this happens. After I read this I found myself at work thinking of certain scenes play out as if it were something I had seen on TV, and I don’t know about you, but not many authors have been able to achieve this with me, so you go Glen CoCo! (shameless Mean Girls quote, I am not ashamed).
I loved the plot, the characters, their relationships, the setting…everything pretty much. I did find Anna to be a bit annoying towards the end though- I felt that through all of the… events… that occurred, she became more and more immature and self-centred, especially considering the situation. Oh one more thing I didn’t like, Etienne’s name! I spent the whole book pronouncing that name at least 5 different ways and I never knew which one was right. Why can’t authors give their characters normal names like I don’t know… bob. Anna and Bob, perfect! :P
