So I am quite late with this month’s wrap up, but I’ve been super duper busy! I didn’t read much this August as I was on my FINAL TEACHING PRAC EVER!!! But considering how busy I was, I’m impressed with what I read. And I’m pretty sure if I remember correctly, I really enjoyed all of the books I read :) I don’t have reviews for all of these on my blog yet, but I’ll make sure to link them if I do!
So the first book I read this month (technically this was in July but I’m counting it as August) was my MOST anticipated release of the year. If you couldn't guess, it was It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. I have a complete spoiler free review here if you would like to check it out. I won’t say what the book is about because you really do need to go into this book blind. It was amazing though and fully met my expectations. I obviously didn’t know what to expect with this book, but over a month later it still gives me the feels thinking about it!
The second book I read was another anticipated release for me and that was Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino. This one wasn’t quite as good as I was hoping but I still did really enjoy it. It is about a woman who finds out her childhood lover wrote a book about her crazy life and she isn’t too happy about it. The book is told from the past and from the present, which I really enjoyed reading. I didn’t find this book was as good as Before We Were Strangers as I didn’t really like the main character, but it was still a top New Adult book. Check out my review here :) 4/5
The next book I read was a free book on iBooks. I read it the same day as I read Swear on This Life as I was in a real reading mood. Game Player by B. J. Harvey was ok. I literally don’t even remember what it was about to be honest so it most definitely didn’t blow me away. I do remember that it was a quick read and I didn’t hate reading it but I’ve just looked at the blurb and it honestly doesn’t ring a bell. How bad is that! In past Terri’s words “It wasn’t terrible, I enjoyed reading but man Mia pissed me off to no end!!! 3.5/5”.
The next book I read was Fair Game by Monica Murphy. I had heard of Monica Murphy before but not of this book. But it was free on iBooks and again, I felt like reading so I picked this up. This book kind of reminded me of After by Anna Todd. Not sure why. I felt like the relationship in the book was very physical and the main character was kind of a push over. But if those things don’t bother you, check it out. Not the best book I ever read but I liked it and thought it was an enjoyable read. 4/5
And the last book I read this month was Catching Jordan by Miranda Kennealy. This is the first in one of those series where they’re set in the same place but about different characters (I can’t think of what it’s called at the moment). I had read Breathe Annie Breathe, which is another book in this series, but decided to give this one a go. I haven’t really been enjoying YA books lately but I did really enjoy this. It was very similar to On the Fence by Kasie West in that she was one of the guys. The main character is the quarterback on the football team, and then some new guy joins the team and she realises she likes him. Lots of other spoilery stuff happens but it’s just your standard YA love triangle drama type stuff. Don’t get me wrong though, I did really enjoy it. Some aspects had me rolling my eyes and I think it ended way too fast, but apart from that it was good :) 3.75/5
