By now you have probably realised that I pick and choose the top 5 Wednesday's that I do. I checked out this week's, and I liked it, so here I am! You can check out future topics in the Goodreads group here. But this week, the topic is books for people who want to start out reading a genre of your choice. So, I've decided to come up with some books (or mainly authors) which I think would be a great way to venture into New Adult. And let's be honest, it is pretty much all I read, so you could say I'm kind of an expert.
Elle Kennedy's 'Off Campus' series. I never thought I would like reading about a bunch of hockey players, but man was I wrong! There are now 4 books in this series, and each of them follows different characters who all have different issues. Some worse than others. I honestly loved all of these books, but my favourite was by far 'The Score'. That is definitely for those of you who want to start off with a more steamy read, because... yeah.
Charade by Nyrae Dawn was one of the first New Adult books I read and I freaking loved it! I never expected to like it as much as I did. I can see a real similarity between Nyrae Dawn and Katie McGarry's writing. They both write about characters from difficult backgrounds which really makes for an interesting story. The only difference is Nyrae's characters are a little bit older and more mature. But seriously, don't be turned off by the ugly cover, because it was so good!
Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino is one of my all time favourite books. I can't eve explain it because I read it so long ago, but the way it was written was just so captivating and reminded me a lot of The Notebook. So if you like The Notebook minus the sad ending, this book would be fantastic!
Anything by Colleen Hoover would be great to be honest, but specifically I would recommend Maybe Someday. I feel like this book was so well written and the twists in it are so unexpected that it would be a great book to start with. It's not too heartbreaking and it's got a really good romance in it! Also there's a music soundtrack to go along with the book, which is pretty cool.
The Burying Water series by K. A. Tucker has a real mix of romance and suspense and it is fantastic. I recently finished reading the series and they just keep getting better! Except for number 3, I wasn't a fan of that one. I feel like this series may not be the best for your first New Adult venture, however for your 2nd or 3rd, definitely! You'll be on your seat from the very first page!
I hope if you were looking for some New Adult books, you have found some here. I highly recommend any books by these authors. Also, some honourable mentions: Christina Lauren, Denise Grover Swank, Max Monroe and Leisa Rayven
