Luke Boone doesn't know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it-the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he's finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set—one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.
Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game—at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington D.C. major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the west coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.
Another amazing book by K. A. Tucker!! I absolutely loved this book so much. I was hooked immediately and could not put it down. I highly recommend listening to these on audible as well, I felt the reading experience was so much better for some reason!
First of all, the whole story line of Rain (Clara) as an undercover cop was so interesting to me. And I just loved Luke! Before reading this I was a little hesitant because of how much I loved Jesse and the whole Burying Water story, but I think I like Luke better than Jesse.
My only issue with this book, I wouldn’t even call it an issue, but I found some of the legal talk and all of the talk about the cars and the Russian mob people a little boring. Most of the time it was mixed into the story in a way that wasn’t boring at all, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so for the most part it didn’t bother me. But there were a few times where I wouldn’t really understand what was going on. These were the times that if I were reading it like a normal book I would probably flip back to double check a few things. But I couldn’t do that as I listened to it on audio.
I was also worried that I would find it hard to distinguish the voices between Luke and Rain and Jesse and Alex (as they are read by the same people) but I had no problems whatsoever. These two readers are some of the best readers I’ve heard on Audible. I wish they read more together! I’m fairly sure they do read some of K. A. Tucker’s other books together so I will definitely be checking that out soon!
Ok so I lied, and I have 2 issues. The ending. Now, I won’t spoil it for anyone but I just wasn’t 100% happy with how it wrapped up so quickly. There was a big time jump in the two last chapters, and I was a little concerned with how it would actually end. I was happy with the overall ending, but as usual with contemporary books I just want more. Although it was very satisfying so I won’t hold a grudge.
But overall I just freaking loved this story. It had the right about of suspense, humour, romance and even some feels mixed in there too. I loved the characters, and I loved seeing some of the characters from Burying Water, back in book 2. I have already read book 3 and 4 and I can’t remember reading about Luke and Rain so I will have to revisit those to spot any cameos!
If you’re looking for a good New Adult that’s a bit different and exiting and not just your average romance novel, definitely check out the Burying Water series. They are all fantastic (although Chasing River was a bit slow) and they all have such unique story lines but are interwoven with each other so well.
