When a bestselling debut novel from mysterious author J.Colby becomes the literary event of the year, Emiline reads it reluctantly. Yet from the very first page, Emiline is entranced by the story of Emerson and Jackson, two childhood best friends who fall in love and dream of a better life.
That’s because the novel is patterned on Emiline’s own dark and desperate childhood, which means that “J. Colby” must be Jase: the best friend and first love she hasn’t seen in over a decade.
I had no idea what to expect from this book, but I was very impressed. The story is one of those friends to more, second-chance love stories and it was done really well.
The story was told in two different time periods, teenage years to adulthood. I found the main character was very immature and very hypocritical which really annoyed me. I also really hated the way she treated people around her. So I actually kind of dreaded reading those chapters from the present (if that makes sense). She did eventually become more likable as the book went on, but still... Not my favourite character.
The plot was so interesting! I never read the blurb so I didn't know what it was about before reading it. It definitely isn't the most realistic book I have ever read, but it was so addicting and unique. There were so many different factors that went into it, and a lot of heavy themes that I really wasn't expecting. But I felt like it was all written really well and I would definitely recommend it for fans of New Adult romance!
