October has been such a good reading month! Especially after last month when I only read 2 books! This month I somehow managed to read THIRTEEN books. Although I'm not actually that surprised since I've literally done nothing. I'll probably end up having another slow month in November as I'm *hopefully* going to be teaching! Oh also, I also completed my reading challenge of 70 books this month, so woohoo! Anywho... This is going to be a long one so prepare yourself!
The Marriage Mistake by Jennifer Probst 3/5
This story didn't really do much for me to be honest. I didn't not like it, but it's definitely not memorable. I felt like it was very old fashioned (with arranged marriages and family beliefs). I also felt like the characters weren't very well developed, and the story was quite boring whenever the two main characters weren't in a scene together.
The Goal by Elle Kennedy 4.5/5
Loved this story! Thinking back I can't remember why I didn't give it 5/5, but if you couldn't tell I am EXTREMELY careful when giving out 5 star ratings. I loved the characters in this and I liked the realistic aspects of it.
Black by Fleur Ferris * 4/5
this was an interesting novel. I did quite enjoy it, but it doesn't stick out to me at the moment. It has some interested concepts and is a littler spookier than I normally read. It also has some religious aspects to it, but definitely not overwhelming. I would have liked to have seen some more romance in the story, as I feel it would have given it more purpose and it would have made me connect with the characters more.
The Other Side of Summer by Emily Gale *4/5
This story was sadder than I was expecting, but it was also better than I was expecting. It had a touch of magical realism mixed in with contemporary, and it was done in a very interesting way. I felt the first half of the story was very confusing, and I wasn't really sure what was going on, but once everything came together it all made sense.
P.S. I like You by Kasie West 4.5/5
was very happy with this story. At first I was worried it would be boring, but like all Kasie West books, I got addicted and ended up loving it. I loved the blossoming relationship and the letter writing. I liked the old fashion way of letter writing and thought it was very sweet. Would definitley recommend.
One Step by Andrew Daddo 3.5/5
this story I felt was geared more towards boys than myself however I still enjoyed it and felt like I took something meaningful away from it. I could definitely see myself in the main character and certain things he went through. Obviously not everything because I am a girl, which is why I think this book would be perfect for teenage boys. Especially those going through hard times such as bullying or family drama. The only thing would be actually getting them to sit down and read it, and I just don't see that happening lol.
Four Letter Word by J. Daniels 4.5/5
Picked this one up on a whim and absolutely loved it! It was kind of a You've Got Mail style story which I'm always down for. It had a unique plot and the characters were all very lovable. I loved the loyalty shown in the book and the romantic aspect on it was on point. Would definitely recommend for a quick NA read.
Replica by Lauren Oliver* 3.5/5
One of my anticipated reads of the year! I was most intrigued about the way this book was written. It is told from two characters perspectives and depending on how you read it the story changes. I personally read Lyra's story first and then Gemma's, however I would recommend reading alternating chapters. I liked the concept of the story, however because of the way I read it, I found it to be very boring and repetitive in places. I also didn't feel like enough information was covered in a 500+ page book.
Sweet Addiction by J. Daniels 4/5
was missing the wonderful world that was Four Letter World so i decided to pick up J. Daniels other book series. I really loved this story. I didn't really enjoy the insta-love aspect of it, but I could look past that because the characters (particularly Reese) were the best. It was funny, romantic and had just the right amount of feels.
Sweet Possession by J. Daniels 4/5
this story is a continuation of the previous book and I enjoyed it as well. The characters were back and better than ever, and their relationship was much stronger. There was less of a plot with this one, but it was a good read all the same. Highly recommend if you're looking for a quick romance fix.
Sweet Obsession by J. Daniels 3.5/5
I enjoyed this story, just not as much as the previous two. I had quite a few issues with not only the insane insta-love, but the characters and particularly Brooke who was the female version of a man whore (not calling her a slut, just saying it like it is). I did like the romance, just not necessarily how that came about. I didn't hate the story by any means though.
Change of Heart by Nicole Jacquelyn 4/5
Really enjoyed this story. I loved the characters and their dynamic. The whole cast of characters were great and I loved seeing them all again. The initial way the relationship started was quite random, but after getting past that I liked the way it developed. Was a very realistic book dealing with some tough issues, and hit quite a few feels!
Book of the Month!
I wasn't originally going to read any more books this month, but on a whim I decided to read Royally Screwed and O M G it was everything I wanted AND MORE! I absolutely loved the characters. I loved the story line which was so similar to Prince and Me (which I also LOVE). And I LOVED the fact that there was no insta-love! I am just so happy with this book, and it definitely exceeded all of my expectations. Would definitely recommend! And if you couldn't tell from my excitement, I gave this book 5/5 stars! Which very rarely happens mind you.
