Everyone's favorite redhead, the spunky Anne Shirley, begins her adventures at Green Gables, a farm outside Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. When the freckled girl realizes that the elderly Cuthberts wanted to adopt a boy instead, she begins to try to win them and, consequently, the reader, over.
I absolutely love the movie and I have wanted to read this book for a while now, but I’ve been putting it off. But then I downloaded some Audiobook app on my phone and it was on there for free so I think you see where I’m going with this. I thought whoever read this book did a really good job at portraying the characters. It is obvious they have seen the movie because it was nearly spot on with the voices!
I really like this story, however Anne talks way too much. From the movies I knew she spoke a lot but listening to the book it’s just too much. Anne will say something and I’ll be waiting for someone to respond, but nope Anne keeps talking. To be honest it really bugged me how self-centred she was in that way. I know she is young and she feels the need to talk because she didn’t have anyone to talk to growing up, but after a few years you’d think it would have died down. But no.
So anyway, I think that if you like the movie (the 1985 version with Megan Follows because that’s the only one worth watching) you will most definitely like the book because it is exactly the same. I was a bit unsure of how I felt about that because I thought they would have changed a few things in the movie, but overall I still love the story and I still got the same feelings as I got while watching the movie (mostly anyway). It’s a yes from me.
I’m looking forward to reading/listening to the other books in the series. Particularly 3 and on as I’ve heard that’s where they start to differ from the movies and I’m excited J If you have read the series, let me know what you thought!

Favourite Quote: That's the worst of growing up, and I'm beginning to realize it. The things you wanted so much when you were a child don't seem half so wonderful to you when you get them.
Recommend if you liked: I can't think of another book like Anne so... Anne of Green Gables Movie (1985)
