From the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing and Nowhere But Here comes a love story about a Craigslist “missed connection” post that gives two people a second chance at love fifteen years after they were separated in New York City.
There is a reason everyone has been talking about this book, it’s flipping amazing!! I absolutely loved it. Before We Were Strangers has definitely made its way up there as one of my top 10 books of the year, maybe even of all time. (Yes it was that good). I don’t even know how to describe my thoughts on this book but I’ll give it a whirl.
I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as I did. I had read another book by Renee Carlino (Sweet thing), and really did not like it at all, so I wasn’t expecting much from this one. But it blew me away. Everything about this book makes me extremely happy.
From the first page I was hooked. There are three parts to the story. First Movement (Recently), Second Movement (15 years ago), Third Movement (Now, Fifteen Years Later). I loved the way it was narrated, Matt was so funny and caring and I just really love reading from the guys perspective. I also liked Grace’s perspective, she was such a unique character but not in an annoying way. Also her story just broke my heart. And I loved that. I loved that the characters weren’t perfect. They didn’t have perfect lives, they were just normal people going through college. I really liked the way the chapters alternated as well. It wasn’t back and forth like most books, it would have 5 chapters from Matts perspective, and then 2 of Grace’s. It wasn’t a set thing it was very random and I loved it.
Their story seemed so real as well. There was no insta-love and I absolutely loved the romance, the writing style and the plot, basically everything about this book I loved. It’s like The Notebook… but better. The only thing I would change is the ending. I mean I didn’t really hate the ending, it was alright but it seemed a little bit too fast if you ask me (that's why it lost .5).
I honestly can’t think of anything else to say about this book, and I feel like I’m just repeating how amazing it is so I’ll stop here.
Before We Were Strangers is a beautiful, heart-warming, tear-jerking, funny, sexy and just down right adorable, love hate love story, that needs to be shared. I would highly highly recommend you stop what you’re doing and read this book. It is a definite must read for fans of The Notebook, or if you just like books, because this is a good one.
