This book is a short story as part of the Harlequin Sports Romance collection (I think that's what it's called anyway :P ). So, I pretty much just picked this up because 1. it's Elle Kennedy and 2. it's another hockey series and I loved her Off Campus series so much! However I'm afraid to say that Body Check didn't hold a candle to any of the books in the Off Campus series.
I did enjoy the book don't get me wrong. But considering it was a short story, I didn't feel like I got to know the characters well enough to really care about them very much. I also didn't feel connected with the story itself. I felt like there wasn't very much plot, which to be honest I shouldn't have been surprised considering it's a Harlequin romance, but I thought it might be different being Elle Kennedy. Nevertheless, I felt like the story was rushed and lacked a bit of explaining and character development that it needed in order for it to be amazing.
The one thing that really bugged me was the actual romantic development throughout the story. I don't even know if that's what you'd call it but it was literally like watching a tennis match. One minute Hayden would be all like "I want commitment" and she'd be all like "yeah nah", and then next thing they'd change their minds. It's like as soon as one caved and thought "yeah lets do this" the other was like "actually I agree lets not do this"... I just couldn't even.
For the amount I paid, and the time it took me to read this, I don't regret it at all. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, and if you're looking for a story with substance and a strongly developed plot, then I'd steer clear of this. I can however recommend The Goal by Elle Kennedy!
