For fifteen years, Ani and Bram have agreed on exactly one thing: they can't stand each other-until one night when their anger gives way to passion. Yet even as Ani and Bram begin to secretly seek comfort in one another's arms, they remain emotionally worlds apart. When Ani's life takes a dramatic turn and she realizes she needs more than Bram can give, their fragile, no-strings relationship unravels. One way or another, Ani is determined to survive. But when Bram finally admits his true feelings, he may discover Ani has moved on without him . .
This story follows Bram (Abraham) and Anita who are also seen in Unbreak my Heart. I read Unbreak my Heart a while back so I had forgotten who all the characters were. And there are a LOT of characters in this story.
First of all, I found the start of the story to be quite random. This isn’t a spoiler because it’s in the first couple of chapters but right from the get go you find out that Bram and Anita HATE each other. You get the back story as to why in the prologue, and you see that the disdain for each other is still there 17 years later. What I don’t get is why they get together in the first place. One minute they hate each other and the next thing you know, they’re together. Just a bit weird. BUT apart from that, I really loved these two together. I loved the chemistry they had and their bantering.
As far as the plot goes, it was very different from anything I had read before. Although I wouldn’t go as far as to say I was blown away by how unique it was. It seemed quite realistic given the circumstances which I appreciated. I can’t go into too much detail but I would have thought Jacquelyn would have gone into a bit more detail about the whole process and emotion of the… thing that happened that I won’t talk about because of spoilers.
AND OMFG the little twist that happened was so unexpected and broke my freaking heart!! If you’ve read it you’ll know what I’m talking about. I literally cried for about 50 pages straight. At first I thought they were going to skim over the matter, but they didn’t. I found that this certain... event that happened to be so realistic and the emotion was so raw and painful and I just can’t even.
With the writing, somehow Jacquelyn managed to keep me hooked from the first page to the last. However I had the same issue with Change of Heart as I did the first book, somewhere towards the middle to the end it starts to slow right down and you can kind of guess what’s going to happen. That’s not to say that I wasn’t still addicted to reading the story, but not much was happening.
I am really glad I read this story. I wasn’t planning on reading it as in the first one I didn’t really care about the characters. But they made for quite an interesting story. I’m really hoping Alex is next because I loved him so much!!
