I started reading this a few weeks ago during my prac but just wasn’t feeling it, so I put it down and read a few other books and then last night I picked it back up and now I’m here.
Anyway, this book is basically about Latham House, a boarding school for people who have Tuberculosis (which is a disease that affects the lungs). It can be cured now, but in this book it’s a total drug-resistant form of Tuberculosis. So the main two characters, Lane and Sadie have Tuberculosis and are living at Latham House.
I thought this was a really great book in the way it portrayed what it would be like to live through this. You really connect with the characters, and there were so many modern day references like Facbeook, Game of Thrones, and Snapchat etc. which was really nice to see in a book, and made it very relatable.
I didn’t always like how it had the alternating chapters from Lane and Sadies perspectives. Mainly because I favoured Lane’s point of view because he was hilarious and his sense of humour was so much like my own. I also felt like there were parts where nothing was really happening which was kind of boring to read, but the amazing parts most definitely made up for it.
This book is funny, heart-warming, sarcastic, at times frustrating, but overall it was enjoyable and I am really glad I read it. It felt like a mixture of John Green of the feels, Rainbow Rowell because of the quirkiness and Lisa Genova because of the overall theme. And somehow, Robyn Schneider has managed to include all of this amazingness into one 324 paged book. I think it’s really great that there is a Young Adult book out there like this, and I most definitely recommend it.
I will definitely need to check out Robyn's other books too, because I'm sure they will be just as amazing as this was.
