A breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
I liked this book. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I went into this story knowing absolutely nothing apart from the fact that many people were heartbroken while reading it. But I didn't love it. And I didn't find it as heartbreaking as I was expecting.
I like Taylor Jenkin's Reid and I liked her other book Maybe In Another Life. But I find that she has a very simple writing style, one that isn't overly descriptive and it's just basic. You don't even find out what the character actually looks like until like halfway into the book! I'm not saying that her stories are basic, they are anything but, but I always seem to feel a little indifferent while reading her books. I found that because of the simplisitc writing style, I couldn't really connect with the characters, particularly Jesse (her husband who I did not like). Although it was very fast paced with a lot of dialogue which I did actually enjoy.
I'm actually really annoyed because I can't think of anything to say about the story. Or anything that i can say would spoil it for anyone else. So... I liked it. But it was just "ok". I wasn't blown away, but I was engaged enough to continue to read it. I'm not going to lie, I kind of skim read some of the parts with Jesse because I just wanted to find out her decision and if I'm honest, I didn't really like Jesse. I liked the Cast Away reference though!
I will say I was happy with the ending and how everything wrapped up. I ALMOST cried even. I don't know. I just think that TJR is an author that I like her stories but I just don't enjoy her writing style. Which is sad because her stories always sound so amazing!
I'm sorry that this was such a shit review, but that's all I have to say. This book definitely has the potential to blow someone away, or change their life, but this book didn't do that for me.
