While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!
Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…
Having read all of Kasie West’s books (and loving them) this was one of my most anticipated reads of 2016! Not only because of Kasie West, but because it just sounded like such an interesting concept! It is about a girl who in her chemistry class starts writing lyrics on the desk. The next class she discovers someone has responded, and it goes from there.
This was honestly just such a cute little romance that I loved (mostly) every bit of. It did take me a bit longer to get into it, but once I did I could not put it down. And honestly, it didn’t take long to read it either. This is definitely one of those books that you can read in a day.
I also really enjoyed that not only did it have a really cute romance, but it also focused on real issues too. One of Lily’s struggles is her “overbearing, crazy family” which I am sure many people can relate to. It’s also about accepting yourself as you are, and finding your true passions in life. I really just loved the story, and want people to understand that it’s more than just a romance novel.
However, talking about the romance I loved it!! I found myself smiling so much throughout the novel. It really showed the value in getting to know people based on personality rather than looks or assumptions. It kind of made me want to start writing on tables in chemistry class. Except I’m not in school. And I didn’t take chemistry. Damn.
Overall, if you couldn’t tell already, I would definitely recommend this if you’re looking for a cute, fluffy read.
