I lost her. No, I didn't lose her. I threw her away. She was my best friend. I was never supposed to fall in love with her. I was careless. She was heartbroken. I thought I was doing fine. But here she is, years later, forced to work with me, reminding me why I fell in love with her in the first place. And this time I'm going to do everything in my power to never let her go.
This is the second book in the Hearts series however you do not have to read Kaleidoscopic Hearts to read Paper Hearts. The author does recommend that to gain full enjoyment out of the story that you read the short novella Torn Hearts. This novella was included in my copy of the book.

I really shouldn’t have finished this book. I was ready to give up on it about 30% through it. But I didn’t I pushed through until about 60% and then after that I just skim read the rest because it was pissing me off so much. And now I’m here, pissed off because I wasted all that time reading this book. I probably shouldn’t write a review since I’m so frustrated, so I should probably warn you that if you really loved this book, you might not want to read this.
I liked the idea of the storyline from what I read on the blurb. But the book was so bloody different!!! I thought it was going to be one of those stories where the couple are friends in high school and then one of them blows it by saying they’re in love with them and then the other can’t handle that so they distance themselves from them until they haven’t spoken for 20 years and then they randomly bump into each other etc. etc. but no. Maybe just read it the wrong way but it was nothing like that.
I also didn’t see any reason for half of the arguments they had. Mia was just so dramatic and she blew everything out of proportion. She would never listen to a damn thing Jenson had to say, and if she had of just shut up for 2 seconds she might have realised how wrong she was! On top of that I felt like all of the events that took place in this book, were very mediocre. There wasn't much keeping my interest, yet I still kept reading.. go figure.
I think it just boils down to the fact that I didn't like Mia. Everything was about her. I just cannot stand her. And from the reviews I’ve read on Goodreads I’m not the only one who felt this way. Praise the lord it’s not just me. The way she would always think that Jenson’s daughter should have been hers, and when they met she felt a “connection” or whatever, I thought it was utterly ridiculous. I just cannot even. I swear this whole book was compiled of Mia wanting Jenson and not wanting Jenson, being angry at Jenson and being in love with Jenson. I just couldn’t take it. (Spoilers) There was one part where she lost her shi*t because she saw Jenson with his ex-wife and mother of his child in a coffee shop. Like as if they weren’t going to see each other since they were married for god knows how long and share a child together.
I will say I liked Mia and Jenson together as a couple. I thought they were great in Torn Hearts but I think after everything that happened, they should have just moved on because it wasn’t working for me. Although the ending was nice and I think it wrapped the story up nicely.
I also liked all of the popular culture references it made. Mia was a big fan of Game of Thrones and Neil Gaiman, and it made a lot of references to popular movies and TV shows and because it was only published in September, it felt very current which was a really nice touch.
Overall, I thought the book was decent but the characters and the story line really made this unenjoyable for me. I personally won't be recommending this book, but keep in mind that this is just my opinion. I would be interested to see if any of you have read this and if you thought similarly. Let me know if you have!
