Blurb: Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.
All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.
I would highly recommend this to fans of New Adult books. It’s got a great romance that isn’t too insta-lovey, and the plot is just entertaining. This book is by no means an extraordinary work of fiction, but there was no point in the story where I was bored, or I didn’t enjoy it.
The topic of rape is discussed in this book quite a bit. For some reason I’ve read a lot of books about rape cases lately and I’m not sure why. But either way, I think that the way it was dicussed was done very tactfully and it gave a different perspective on it in a way. I also liked how the character dealt with everything.
Oh my gosh another thing that made me love this book was the fact that the couple had such a good relationship. It seems like it’s almost a set thing for authors writing NA books, that once the couple finally gets together and everything is fine, they break up over something stupid and then they mope about and wait ages before they realise it was all a miscommunication and they get back together. I just really loved the way Kennedy approached this, and I felt like the characters worked through any issues really bloody well. I loved it.
Overall, I bloody loved this book. Not so much that I would give it five stars, because I rarely give out 5 stars for books. BUT, this book was just such an entertaining read and exactly what I needed in between my study. It’s not a book that makes you really think, yet it’s got it all. There’s humour, romance, drama, tragedy (depending how you look at it), and it’s just a great read.
I have already purchased the second book in the series which follows John Logan’s story and I’m already loving it! I think this is a series that I will be flying through (pretty sure there are only 3 books out at the moment) so expect to see my reviews for those shortly!
