I wasn’t expecting much going into this book to be honest. But wow. I actually read this book a month or so ago, and I wasn’t originally going to write a review but I thought that considering I am still thinking about this book, I may as well spread the love.
There is no way I’m going to be able to explain this without giving away spoilers because that’s just the kind of person I am, so instead I will just insert the blurb
“Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive. . . .
Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.”
Are you intrigued? Are you? Are you? I was (obviously, because I read it). But really, this was an amazing book. The writing flowed really well, it left you hooked and the story progressed nicely. I think it was really clever the way it was written, how the lives all intertwined with each other as they were so different.
Admittedly, I started reading the book and I had read just over a quarter and was disappointed. It wasn’t really doing anything for me and I didn’t see the point to it all. I was also really confused when it kept switching from different perspectives which really irritated me at first but it all made sense by the end. At times it just felt like it was being dragged out and it kind of made me want to skip ahead to the good parts (which I sometimes did #noregrets)
Having said all of that, this was an amazing read and even though the first half wasn’t outstanding, it was still enjoyable and I read it all in one sitting (actually that’s a lie, I had to eat). I think this would be a good book if you want something that is easy to read but still makes you think a bit. Also, IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. I highly recommend reading this.
I also leant this book to my sister and she enjoyed it just as much as me. Actually I think she probably enjoyed it more than me to be honest.
