Thomas Bellweather hasn’t been in town long. Just long enough for his newlywed mother to be murdered, and for his new stepdad’s cop colleagues to decide Thomas is the primary suspect.
The only person who believes him is Charlotte Rooker, little sister to three cops and, with her soft hands and sweet curves, straight-up dangerous to Thomas. Her best friend was the other murder vic. And she’d like a couple answers.
Answers that could get them both killed, and reveal a truth Thomas would die to keep hidden…

This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review. This has in no way affected my opinion of the book.
I have wanted to read this book for a while now, Brigid Kemmerer one of my friend’s favourite authors so I was really looking forward to it coming out in January. But then I saw the title was available on NetGalley and they approved me, so I read it straight away and now here I am. I had forgotten what it was really about so it was a really exciting read for me.
I absolutely loved the first three quarters of the book. 5/5 for that. It was thrilling, and I just couldn’t get enough. The romance of it was amazing, the writing was fantastic and the mystery part was so intense. I absolutely devoured it.
The characters were amazing. I really loved the dual perspective and Thomas was such a sarcastic, funny character. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. He seriously couldn’t catch a break at times. It kind of reminded me of Pretty Little Liars in that way. He always seemed to get stuck in a situation no matter what he did. I also really liked Charlotte as a character. She was annoying at times but not overwhelmingly so like some other YA characters I have read before. I liked the fact she had Type One Diabetes as well. I've never read a YA book where the character has some sort of disease or condition and it just made the character feel that much more realistic. I really loved some of the side characters too. Particularly Charlotte's brother Ben. All of her brothers are pretty awesome though, but Ben in particular. I feel like if this was going to be a series, the next book would (or should) follow Ben. Just saying... Another character I really enjoyed was Charlotte's best friend Nicole. She was such a quirky and loyal person, I couldn't help but love her.
Honestly, I loved everything about this book... Except for the last quarter. It let me down and I was a little bit disappointed with the “twist” and how it was explained. When "it" was first mentioned, I had no idea what was going on, what it meant and how it all worked. I felt like I was only getting half the story and it was frustrating me (not enough to stop reading though because this was seriously addicting). Then the ending of the story just felt rushed. It skimmed over some really interesting parts which I can't specifically mention, but I felt like after all of the build-up, everything sort of happened and was quickly wrapped up.
I’m not really sure if this is going to be continued as an actual series following the same characters or not. The ending was left open so that she could, but honestly I’m kind of hoping that she won’t continue this as a series. I adored the characters and the writing, but I feel like if we follow this same story line, it will become a bit repetitive and unrealistic (I know it's a paranormal romance but still, there are limits). Either way, I would still read it because as I said before, I loved the characters and the story, just wasn't so impressed with the ending.
Overall: Loved it, except for the ending. I still highly recommend. It’s not something I would normally read but the writing style had a very Contemporary/Mystery feel to it which I thoroughly enjoyed. A must read for fans of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, or for those who love a little bit of suspense.
