This was my first real delve into the fantasy book genre, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it. I'm not going to lie, I was turned off by the covers of this book, the ones everyone raves about? Cartoon characters on covers just do not appeal to me, sorry not sorry. I actually like the cover that I had (the one shown in the picture) better.
I’m not sure I'm making any sense but either way, I saw those covers and just thought “yeah, nah”. But then @patriciacrowther78 on Instagram said if I was going to read a fantasy book it had to be this one. So I got it on my iPad that day and well, here I am.
It’s been about a week since I read it so I can’t really go into much detail, but I really enjoyed Sarah’s writing style. It was so easy to read, it flowed really well and it wasn't confusing at all. My main concern with fantasy books were that it would be too confusing and I’d be overwhelmed with all of the fantasy like elements, but this book just did it so wonderfully, it didn't even feel like I was reading a fantasy novel.
That being said, there were a few parts I had to re-read, just because I tend to get distracted easily and one minute I’m happily reading and the next I will have read 5 pages without taking anything in, and that’s kind of essential with this book, hence the re-reading.
I really enjoyed the characters too. Celaena was such a badass. She was so sassy and I just loved her. I’d constantly find myself laughing because she’s just so damn funny without even trying to be.
One thing I did not like was the love triangle. I really do not like love triangles, seriously. And we all know she belongs with Chaol, that other guy isn't even an option (I don't even remember his name that is how much of an option he isn't).
Sorry this was such a short review but I can’t remember much else. I will definitely be continuing the series though. Let me know what you thought of the book if you've read it!

Favourite Quote: [Dorian]"One of my bitches gave birth to a litter of mongrels. before, they were too young to tell. But now... Well I'd hoped for purebreds" [Celaena] "Are we speaking of dogs or of women?"
If you liked this you will like… I'm not actually sure since this was my first fantasy BUT my friend Nicky was reading the Glass series by Maria V. Snyder and she said it sounded similar. So I'm going to say that, correct me if I'm wrong!
So if you're reading this, thanks for the recommendation Patricia :)
