I won this book back in March from Simon and Schuster and have been really looking forward to reading it. The only thing I actually knew about this book going into it was it was a YA novel about the apocalypse.
The book is told from four different perspectives: Peter, Eliza, Anita and Andy. They don’t really have anything to do with each other, but they all attend the same high school. Then they find out that an asteroid “Andor” is coming for earth and the world is basically going to end in 10 weeks. The book is then split into 10 different chapters, counting down the weeks until Andor. I really liked the prospect of the book, and I felt like it had a lot of potential but I really did not like it.
The first 100 pages were good, it intrigued me and I was really looking forward to it. Then it just became…boring. Really really boring. I struggled to want to read the book and it took me over a week which is insane. It makes me extremely angry thinking about this book, and how much potential it had and what actually happened?!
At the start I really only liked Peter and Eliza, but by the end I didn’t even like them. They are all just annoying, and immature and also very boring. The book was just boring, there’s no other word for it. BORING BORING BORING. The plot didn’t progress at all, the whole story was based around planning some stupid end of the world party. It did start to pick up at the end, in like the last 50 pages? But it wasn’t mind blowing, and I definitely won’t be thinking about it weeks later.
I’m sure some people will like it, obviously. But really this book isn’t for me. I’ve been trying out new genre’s lately and I think I’m just going to stick to my contemporary books. I haven’t been enjoying reading and I’m pretty sure that’s why. So if you’re really into dystopian-ey type books (if that’s what this even is) then take this review with a grain of salt, because you will probably love it. Maybe. Probably not but maybe.
Rating: 5/10 (See my rating scale)
Format: Paperback (ARC)
Genre: YA Dystopian/Science Fiction-ey? It's about the apocalypse so take from that what you will.
You might like We All Looked Up if you liked... Tomorrow When the War Began (not 100% sure on that one but maybe)
