The first book is one that I read recently, and I am constantly thinking about both the book, and the message it leaves and that is, The DUFF by Kody Keplinger. This is a Young Adult novel about a high school girl named Bianca. It portrays the life of a teenage girl perfectly, I would know because I am one, the thoughts and feelings Bianca has about her body and her looks are ones that I am sure everybody, no matter their age or sex, can relate to, and that is what is so good about this book. You can relate to the characters and what they are feeling because you are going through (or have gone through) what they are going through in the book, and then once you get to the end you realise that you’ve been taken on a journey, not of “self-discovery” but of self-acceptance. Also there is a really hot guy in the book that just makes it that much better :P

This second book, this will seriously change your life. The DUFF is nothing compared to this book. You may have heard of it, you may not have either way the book is Still Alice by Lisa Genova. This book follows the story of Alice who is a fifty-something year old woman who develops early on-set Alzheimer’s disease. I hadn’t really heard anything about this book or what it was about, and if you know me at all you can probably guess that I didn’t read the blurb, but I picked it up and started reading it anyway. Now this is not normally a book I would go for, actually it is definitely not a book I would go for, but I am so glad I did it. What makes this book really stand out is the fact that it is told from Alice’s point of view, for the whole book. You get to get inside the head of an Alzheimer’s patient, and that is what really gets you.
So even if you don’t think this book is for you, even if you only strictly read YA novels or you think “I don’t want to read about an old lady with Alzheimer’s” I strongly urge you to give it a go, I can guarantee that it will be a story that will stick with you for a long time. And then you can come back here and thank me :P
